Stockport Business Blog content writer

I am writing this as we begin to navigate tier 3 of Covid lockdown craziness. It is such an unsettling time for everyone, but if we can continue supporting one another, things may feel a bit brighter. Our local Stockport businesses need our help whether that’s buying something, liking and commenting on a social media post or sharing these blog posts – it all helps.

Here are three more fabulous business owners for you to learn about. I never thought, when I began this, that I would have filled this section of my blog right up till Christmas. There are a lot of independent businesses out there all working hard and I am delighted to give them a different platform to sell themselves.

I never intended to become a personal trainer.  I’d finished my degree, and was helping manage a bar in Fallowfield when I was offered a coaching role at St. Brendan’s GAA club. It was there I fell in love with helping people improve their lives through exercise.

I set about getting my qualifications and started working as a coach. Over the last decade, I’ve helped people with weight loss, marathon PB’s, Ironman triathlons, first pull-ups and double bodyweight deadlifts. And, I’m still as passionate about helping clients not only reach their goals but their potential.

Outstanding Performance

My proudest moment as a coach, came just last month. Suzie, a long term client of mine, was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed several surgeries as well as radiotherapy treatment.  She came back to training as soon as she was able, and we started from scratch. Last week, just before her five-year ‘cancerversary’, she hit five full pull-ups. An outstanding performance after a long journey.

Neil Gallagher PT Stockport BusinessI recently became a dad to beautiful twin boys who are almost eight months old at the time of writing, and I want to help set a good example as they grow. Both in my own training and how they will see how being physically fit can improve your quality of life.

Get in touch if you’re looking to get fitter, healthier, and you’d like to be part of an amazing supportive community whilst you do it.

Louise Barson Art Stockport Business

I’m Louise Barson of Louise Barson Art, an artist based in Stockport Cheshire.

My corporate career lasted for thirty years. It involved long hours and was high pressured, but I really enjoyed it. I then moved into freelancing and eventually set up my first business, Silver Concierge. It was an award-winning business that was growing well. However, in 2013 I had to undergo treatment for cancer. That paired with becoming a carer meant I had to put my business goals on hold.

Then, in the summer of 2016, I found myself with the time to plan what to do next. Too much time had elapsed to restart my former business, and I wasn’t ready to stop working. Instead, I took the opportunity to pursue a dream. I decided to become an artist.

Having not painted since school, I picked up my paintbrushes, started exploring different materials and discovered a talent for interpreting the world with colour and form. Everything I do is inspired by the desire we all have to connect with the world around us. I believe we are all more connected to nature than we realise. The colours, shapes and forms we see have the power to transform our mood and experience of life wherever we live it.

My paintings add colour, energy and joy to our lives and reconnect us to our wonderful planet.

What do I do?

Stockport Business Louise Barson

Art and being creative is an excellent way of getting into the moment, being fully present and helps achieve relaxation. It’s a good activity for relieving stress and improving mental wellbeing.

My paintings help people feel joyful. I create in watercolour, acrylics, or mixed media across various themes including animals, abstracts and flowers but landscapes and trees are the main themes currently.

You can buy original art from my portfolio and art cards, plus signed prints and calendars. I also share my joy and passion for art with other people by providing 1 to 1 and small group workshops to help people develop their creativity and by helping to run a local art group

I find doing bespoke commissions very satisfying, especially when I  reveal the finished painting to my clients and see and hear their reaction. It can be quite emotional. I have missed my 1-to-1 art  sessions with clients due to Covid, but it has helped me expand my offerings, and I have been able to move onto Zoom.

I’m delivering some art and creativity workshops for a global company at their annual staff conference in October 2020 and can offer this service to other businesses.

Supporting the Community

I also am a Volunteer Ambassador for Chelwood Foodbank Plus raising awareness of this independent foodbank charity in Stockport and raising funds and finding sources of food donations. As you can imagine, demands on the foodbank have increased due to changes occurring due to Covid, and I’ve increased dramatically the amount of time spent helping the foodbank deal with these challenges since March 2020.

I have created two styles of art calendar for 2021, and for each purchase, £1 will be donated to the foodbank.

Where to see my art

My artwork has been selected for various exhibitions at Home Gallery, Manchester,  Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery, Wolfgang Webster Art Gallery. All my 2020 Exhibitions around the North West are now postponed until 2021

Grovvy Treats Stockport Businesses

I’m Maz, mum of 4 ranging from 11 years to 20 months and owner of GroovyTreats. Having been a stay at home mum for a few years, I wanted something that I could do around the kids, yet give me a purpose and self-identify.

Content Writer supporting local business

GroovyTreats was born from hubby and I investing in a candy floss machine and sweet tables for events and parties and then expanding into personalised sweet cones. However, Covid hit, so all our events and orders got cancelled. We were in shock and didn’t know what to do. This was on top of having four children to look after under lockdown conditions!

How we adapted

I had always wanted to do gift boxes, so after a short break during lockdown, I started again. Since then, I have been making personalised sweet gift hampers and jars as well as our unique personalised sweet cones.

Due to the pandemic and people not being able to see each other or celebrate in their usual way, GroovyTreats has flourished. We create unique personalised items on behalf of our customers. They get the appreciation from the recipient for sending such thoughtful gifts.

Some of our best sellers are our personalised sweet hampers that come full of sweets and are personalised with a picture/message/quote. Each customer shares their special pictures to make them a unique gift. We are now making our personalised hampers for some corporate clients and charities using their logos and message.

We have also sent out many of our 16 compartment gift boxes full of sweets. Gifts are delivered locally and nationally with a personalised message. Our personalised jars and pick n mix bags using our extensive vegetarian and vegan range are also very popular.

Groovy Treats Copywriting services

Our customers are loyal and return to us time and time again. Recipients of our gifts also get in touch to buy for their friends. Some have said to me, how pleased they were to receive it that they’d like to treat someone else the same way! We feel fortunate to have so much support. We do our best to provide that personal service and that they really do feel the “made with love” love!

Due to recommendations, we are now also working with charities and business to create unique gifts for their customers, staff and clients.

We are truly thankful for our loyal customers who buy from us and recommend us. It makes us do a little happy dance!

Start that Christmas shopping early

If you are looking for a personalised gift we can help! We are also increasing our Christmas range to include sweet treats as well novelty gifts such as filled baubles, Santa lost licenses and sweet sleighs.

We are based in Gatley, Cheadle and deliver locally or post out nationally.

If I can help you, please do contact me. Always happy to chat and discuss how we can help you.
