It’s time for the second instalment of my Stockport business blog showcasing the many amazing independent businesses in our local area.
The response to the first blog was overwhelming, with lots of people getting in touch. Hopefully, I will be able to continue introducing you to lots of fantastic Stockport-based businesses over the next few months.
I have been running my own business for over ten years. Becoming a mum meant working full time wasn’t working for me, so I decided to take the leap and start my own business. I haven’t looked back since!
Being a business owner provides me with the flexibility to work around family life. It has given me the freedom to work on my own terms and having the creative freedom to work on projects that align with my style and values.
I have an appreciation for great design and style and love implementing this into my work. In particular, I create eye-catching designs that provide a clear, professional look and feel.
I work with a range of clients from start-ups to large, well-established companies.
Here are a few samples of work I have created:
Heatons Therapy Brand Identity
A calming colour palette was used with each dot representing the different issues that fall within cognitive behavioural therapy.
Jolie Studio Branding Identity
Interior designers, Jolie Studio, create beautiful spaces through the power of the five senses. I created a contemporary, stylish logo where the J and S interlink together.
Even after so many years in the design industry, both employed and self-employed, my passion for design remains. I have the same enthusiasm and excitement for every new design I create. And there is nothing like seeing a company using your design.
I like to work on brand identity, logo design, stationery, brochures and literature, packaging, point of sale, direct mail, promotional material, flyers, signage, exhibitions, presentations and website design.

I set up Daisy Imprints in May 2008 from my home in Cheadle. At the time, I was a single mum of three young children. My idea was to establish a business that enabled me to work at home around the children. Twelve years on, with a new partner and another child, I am still making my charms.
I make my solid silver print charms with fingerprints, handprints, footprints, animal prints (dog and cat paw and horse hoof so far!), writing, picture or cut-outs.
Fingerprints are usually taken directly in the silver clay by me. Appointments were at my home, but I also attended hospitals, hospices and undertakers to take prints of individuals at the end of life care or those who had passed away. I also was available to attend printing ‘parties’ at homes or playgroup settings.
As it became evident that we would be entering lockdown, I researched, learnt and established a new method of taking fingerprints. I sent out fingerprint putty kits during lockdown so that my customers could take fingerprints themselves remotely. These have proved to be very successful. I am so happy to be able to continue this service alongside my face to face appointments as the world around us moves to our new normal.
Other prints are taken with inkless wipe kits, and so I was able to continue sending these kits out. I can also receive copies of prints (of hands, feet, animal prints, writing and drawings) via email or WhatsApp!
I take prints of all ages, from newborn to Grandparents. While babies fingerprint lines develop over the first 12 months, I have made prints of six-month-olds with lots of lines and 18-month-olds with no lines. It really does depend on the individual. Personally, I love the dinky prints of babies even without lines!
I have gift vouchers available for any amount or event. I can post these out or arrange for safe collection.
Worker Bee Markets
Now we are moving into the second half of the year, I am pleased to be a regular stallholder at various locations with the fabulous Worker Bee Markets. At these events, I have a full display of my charms and can take orders and prints and sell my kits and gift vouchers. I always put details of any events I’m attending on my Facebook page.
During lockdown, my website had a full revamp with thanks to my eldest. He did a super speedy and fantastic job of recreating and updating my original website. I use it as a place for information with my product and price list. All orders and inquiries come directly to me via message, phone or email. This way, I can ensure that each order has my personal care and attention.
I am so proud that I have been able to continue my work on my wonderful business throughout the difficult year we have all had. I may have had a reduction in the number of orders coming in, but for the inquiries and orders I have had I have been able to offer my full product list. It means I can continue to juggle my business alongside the changing needs of my rapidly growing children and my wider family.
Thank you for reading my story on this fantastic blog,

Having set up Life Choice Legal in 2018, I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done. As a busy mum of three, I need to work flexibly around my family commitments and owning my own business means I can do this.
I studied law at Manchester Metropolitan University and then the South West University of England for my postgraduate legal practice course before qualifying as a solicitor. I enjoyed working in the legal sector and was lucky enough to specialise in various fields such as prison law, criminal law and wills and probate.
However, the long hours in a firm didn’t give me the work-life balance I wanted, and I decided to set up on my own. Initially, I did consider setting up my own solicitor’s practice. But, after researching the practicalities, I went for an Estate Planning business, and Life Choice Legal was born.
I specialise in:
Will Writing – helping you write a legal document ensuring your hard-earned assets are passed to those you have chosen.
Will Storage – annual professional storage of your will.
Lasting Power of Attorney – forming a legal document that gives decision-making powers to those people you trust the most should you ever lose capacity. This is a form of protection that is there to protect against any life-changing event.
I operate my business from home and visit clients in their own homes. It has to be a personal service as it can sometimes be a difficult process. My guidance throughout makes it easier.
Home visits were stopped due to Covid, but I was able to move my meetings to Zoom or telephone. Luckily, work remained busy, especially at the beginning of the lockdown. I guess people wanted to get all their affairs in order.
In the height of lockdown, signing wills was proving problematic. My advice is to ask two neighbours to witness, even if it is through an open window. There is new temporary legislation allowing for video witnessing. However, there are lots of measures and records that need to be taken so I would only suggest signing remotely if it were absolutely necessary.
Who do I help?
Having drafted hundreds of wills and LPAs, I understand how to make these tasks stress-free. Death isn’t a topic people like to discuss, but my meetings are relaxed, and I will guide you through the process step-by-step.
Everybody needs a will. It saves a lot of time and energy later on. Many young couples prepare wills that include guardianship. This ensures their children will be cared for by people they trust should anything unexpected happen.
A range of people organise lasting power of attorney. Many younger people want to be prepared, just in case. I often explain that an LPA is like an insurance policy and provides protection should you ever need it. Older people also want to put this protection in place so their adult children can make decisions if necessary.
If you are looking to write a will or organise LPA, go to Life Choice Legal’s website here for more information.
